Trigger Warning
Artist Statement
Every year, 10 million or more women and men are violated in an abusive manner across the United States. As a survivor myself, I know firsthand the pain and trauma that comes along with this maltreatment. My life is impacted in ways that I never knew were possible. Simple tasks and normal activities are filled with high anxiety, fear, and paranoia. I lost friends, had fights with family, and hurt lovers in the process of trying to heal from the permanent damage that is left behind.
Trigger Warning brings the five main types of abuse into the spotlight, facilitating a necessary discussion about their impacts. I am challenging the viewer to notice what is often hidden from sight. As they confront the inescapable reality of the secrets that victims keep from everyone, they will face the lifelong trauma and scars.
